for photographers

There’s no shortage of photographers out there willing to hold mentoring sessions! It drives some people nuts. Me, on the hand, I happen to think that’s a really great thing. We’re all looking to learn and grow, both as professionals and as artists. It’s only natural to want to learn and grow along with someone whose style you admire and can really relate to.

During the months of January through April, I’m available for mentoring sessions, aka, coffee talks.

My particular mentoring program works like this: (#1.) you fill out a comprehensive questionnaire, which allows me to then create a loose outline of what we need to cover (#2.) we’ll meet at a coffee house, rockin’ pizza joint, vegetarian/gluten-free cafe … whatever … and I’ll treat you to a meal, offer up some very funny jokes, and, oh yes, answer all of your questions. (#3.) we’ll also do a full portfolio critique and brainstorm ways to take your business from here … to HERE! (#4.) If you choose a full day mentorship, there will also be a practice shoot included, complete with an overview of how to edit the images in a way that is true to your style.

Here are just a few of the topics people like to discuss:

Brand Management – Is my brand working?

Marketing – With so many mediums out there, what’s the right (most cost-effective) choice for my business?

Growth – How do I attract the kind of customers with whom I really want to work?

Shoots – How can I convince my clients to try out creative and fun ideas? And how can I make sure everyone cooperates!

Competition – There are so many other photographers out there. How can I find my place?

Images – I want my images to look like THIS, but currently, they look like this.

Without a doubt, the questions I receive the most often are those pertaining to marketing. And I have to tell you, I LOVE questions about marketing and branding! My background is in marketing and design, an industry I worked in for the past 13 years. Sometimes I stay up at night concocting new marketing strategies. And yes, sometimes I even dream in slogans. So, brand strength and consistency is definitely an area that I love to discuss.

Where will the coffee talk take place?

You have two choices: My hometown or yours. The benefit of you coming to me is that you get a mini vacation and a little time away from it all to really focus on your business and process the information we go over. The benefit of me coming to you is that we get to work on your turf. We’re able to scout out some fun locations in YOUR area. Plus, you don’t have to worry about packing up, leaving the kids home, and coming to me. And for some people, this is really beneficial.

What’s the closest airport to your area?

Newark, Delaware is right smack in the middle of Baltimore, Washington, New York, and Philadelphia. Philadelphia and Baltimore are the closest airports. I live right on the border of Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. So, we’ll pick the right area for our coffee talk and session based on your needs.

How much will it cost?

Please contact me for my most current pricing information.

What should I expect?

My style and approach to photography is fun, laid-back, and honest. That’s the same approach I take with my mentoring sessions as well. I guarantee we’ll laugh a lot, inspire each other, and discover new ways to make your business even more fabulous than it already is. In no way do I claim to know everything there is to know about photography, business, or life. But what I do know, I’m always happy to share with others.

Please note: Coffee talk sessions are not available to individuals who live within a 50-mile radius of Newark, DE.

Kerrie - (you don’t have to post this comment Kate – just writing my inquiry here because I’m too lazy to email – hehe )

Would you consider doing workshops for hobby photographers?
The closest I ever intend on getting to ‘pro photog’ would be shooting my little models for my boutique stuff.

And I mean workshops on a really *basic* level, for people like me who totally suck at light levels, etc. ;)

I just want to capture and be able to share the beautiful things I see (and, eventually, to show my own creative vision with my camera) Basically just this part:
“Images – I want my images to look like THIS, but currently, they look like this” :)

Jill - Hi Kate!!!

Mimi Ross - Hi Kate!
I’m so glad I came across this part on your website! I am trying to start up a business. I’ve only taken a basic photography class at the county college, but I love taking portraits. I have two kids and I know they’re sick of seeing me with the camera in my hand LOL I dont have an SLR but my camera does a pretty good job. I have a page on Facebook (Elite Photography, Bear DE), if you get a chance you could check them out. I would love to hear what you think. Your photos give me inspiration, I love them!
Please contact me with your fee and I’ll see if I can make it happen.
PS
You know many members of my family….Veronica Mazarelli is my sister and Sid and Janet Ross are my in-laws, so of course Katina’s my sister-in-law. Small world, huh?
I know that Jess Mazarelli goes with you when you have a wedding and I would love to do something like that, (if you felt comfortable LOL) I know I would learn a lot from you. I have a close friend who would take our family portraits and I had asked her if I could tag along on any jobs she had, but we never got around to it and then she moved to FL so…:)
But, thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope to hear back from you soon
Mimi
