The other day, I was sitting in the Starbucks in Delmar, CA. I had just taken a long walk on the beach and was bemoaning the fact that I live in Delaware. True, we’ve got beaches. But I’m totally in love with the beaches in Southern California.
Anyway, right at that moment, a man flopped down next to me and waved his hand over towards a group of cyclists that were congregating in the corner of the Starbucks. “It’s ridiculous around here. I can’t stand it,” he said. There was some kind of race going on down the road, so I figured that’s why he was so annoyed.
“But it’s warm and the beach is right there,” I offered.
“I hate the beach here,” he responded.
At this point, I really wanted him to just leave so I could go back to my book. But instead, I asked him what beach he does like. And I kid you not, the man said: “Well, there’s one in Delaware that I love. You’ve probably never heard of it … Rehoboth.”
I had to laugh at the irony of it all!
His brother has a home in Rehoboth and he travels there to enjoy the beach. Meanwhile, I travel to San Diego to enjoy the beach. Life is funny : )
That is funny Kate.. Life was sending you a message! We totally take for granted what we have right in our own backyard.
Although, since I’ve been to San Diego, I must agree, the beaches are fab 🙂 and La Jolla is my favorite!!!!
