MATERNITY/NEWBORN

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Do you offer birth photography?
At this time, no, I do not. I may be adding it in the future, though! Stay tuned!

How far along should I be for my maternity pictures.
Usually the 3rd trimester is best. Our goal is to capture you when you have a nice round belly … but before you start to get “too big” or any swelling sets in. For most women, around week 30 is ideal.

What is the procedure for scheduling a newborn shoot?
Sometimes babies have their own agenda! So since we don’t really know exactly when your little one will be making his or her debut, here’s what we do:
1. Contact me to book … 2-3 months before due date
2. At the time of booking, your $250 session fee is due. I will then mark your due date on my calendar and leave some flexibility in my schedule.
3. As you get closer, just keep me updated on your progress.
4. Once baby arrives, contact me and we’ll get your session scheduled. Our goal will be before baby is 10 days old.

What is the best age for a newborn shoot?
Babies start to uncurl, wake up, and become more aware of their surroundings after day 10. They also start to break out with baby acne around this point. So the goal is try and have the session during the first 10 days of life. But things happen. If it is just not possible to have the session before day 10, don’t worry. Older newborns are wonderful to photograph, too. They may not be as willing to curl up into cute little poses, but they always love to snuggle with Mom and Dad … and what could be more beautiful than that?

Do you offer a “Baby’s First Year” package?
I do … and it’s probably my favorite offering! It’s amazing how much little ones change that first year. Learn about the package here.

Do you bring props?
I usually bring a variety of different props, blankets, hats, and headbands. You are welcome to request specific props that you may see in my portfolio. And you are also welcome to purchase your own props or clothes that we can incorporate in the shoot, too.

How do you get the newborn to curl up and fit in little baskets?
A newborn baby has just spent months curled up and snoozing away in the womb. So she actually enjoys be curled up and wrapped when she is first outside of the womb, too. A reeeeeeally warm (uncomfortably warm, actually, for the adults) room, white noise, a snuggle from Mom, and a full belly all help, too : )

Are all the props and poses safe?
Safety is always the number one priority on a newborn shoot. Many of the pictures that may look dangerous … such as a baby sleeping on a rocking horse, for example … are actually created in Photoshop. The baby may, in fact, have been curled up sleeping on the rocking horse, but Mom and Dad’s hands were there supporting him at all times and then Photoshopped out. We will not do any pose or position or use any prop that makes you feel uncomfortable. I also reserve the right to decline using a prop you may wish to include in the shoot if I feel it can not be used safely. Nothing, nothing matters to me more than protecting your little one.

GENERAL QUESTIONS

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Do you offer event photography?
I photograph weddings, but I do not photograph anniversary parties, showers, b-day parties, or any other type of gathering.

Besides the newborn stage, what are the other good stages for pictures during a baby’s first year?
Three months, six months (sitting up!), and close to one year (standing up!). You can see some detailed examples here.

What in the world should we wear?!?!
This is the number one question … because trying to get everyone looking great can leave Mom feeling a little overwhelmed. Here’s a quick guide that may help.

Where should we go for our session?
We can go anywhere you want! Backyards, local parks, Main Street … anywhere. There are way too many amazing areas to list, so if you’re totally stuck on a place to go, shoot me an email at preciousmemoriespix@gmail.com and we’ll figure it out together.

Do you offer digital files?
I offer both traditional print packages, a package that I call build-a-package, and also digital files. Every family’s needs are so different, so I truly do have something for everyone. You can view the full pricing packages here.

Do you offer holiday cards or birth announcements?
I do offer custom-designed birth announcements … they’re gorgeous! Ask to see some samples. I do not, however, offer holiday cards. I decided against offering them because fall is my busiest time for portrait sessions and I wanted to leave my time free for shooting! I DO, however, offer a free digital negative with every REGULAR session held in September, October, and November along with a list of awesome online printers so you can get beautiful, professional cards done up yourself!

I’m thinking about getting my child into modeling. What should I do first?
Read this.

How long have you worked as a full-time professional photographer?
About 6 years now. I had NO idea this was the path I’d be taking in life … but I’m so, so glad I took it! Prior to working as a full-time photographer, I worked as a graphic artist and marketing writer for 10 years.
