storybox project for dreamer

I was absolutely thrilled to be one of the photographers selected for Dreamer’s Storybox Project! I think it was just SUCH a cool idea. The good folks at Dreamer mailed out a box of the same items to 10 different photographers. We all got to do whatever we wanted with the items. The only catch was that a child had to be in the photo … which makes sense since Dreamer is all about creativity and kids! We received:

  • one piece of green yarn
  • a square of red paper
  • a twig
  • a feather

They gave us quite a bit of time to come up with our final results – the whole summer, actually. But, since I sold my house and moved a few states away over the summer, I was a wee bit busy! And suddenly, my deadline was just a week away and I was still at a loss for what to do for my shoot!

I got an idea to make a puppet using the twig and yarn. So I cut up the yarn and broke the stick into a few pieces. But my puppet just wasn’t cute and I quickly abandoned the idea. Except now I had a cut up string and broken stick! I actually considered going out and finding a new stick and buying a new piece of yarn … but then I thought, “that’s no fun! Use what they gave you!”

I tied together the pieces of the yarn, and it kind of reminded me of a headband. And so, just like that, I decided to make a headband. I cut up the red paper into little hearts and broke up the twig into really small pieces and affixed them to the headband along with some fresh flowers. It SCREAMED flower child. And so that’s what I went with!

Miss Ava drove a long way to hang out with me … and she did a fabulous job! Apparently, she really is a big nature lover. She took home one of the gerber daisies that I had on the shoot and I’m told she took excellent care of it : )

We were allowed to send in a single image, multiple images, or images and text. And as you can see, I opted for a collage …

And here are some of the other images we shot that morning …

SUCH. A. FUN. PROJECT!

A huge thanks to the folks at Dreamer. I reeeeeeally needed that project! Thanks for letting me be a part of it!

Happy Thursday!
Kate
