summertime happiness — child commercial photographer

I had two goals in mind for this shoot:

A: Challenge myself by shooting in a wide open space on a bright, cloudless day. This isn’t too much of a challenge if you plan on working with reflectors or off-camera lighting. But I never do either of those things when I’m attempting to …

B: Capture joy and happiness with little ones. Actually, I kind of wanted to recreate what summer looked like for me when I was a little girl. I wanted to see bare feet, bruised legs, twirly skirts, dandelion collecting, spins, runs down hills with open arms, and bright warm sunshine-y colors. I wanted to see friendship, silliness, and fun.

I usually don’t care too much about the specifics during a shoot. I kind of outline what I hope we’ll accomplish in my head and come prepared … but once we get started, it’s the kids that dictate what happens. They’re FAR more creative than I could ever be and when I let go and just follow, that’s when the good stuff really happens : )

These pictures make me happy.

The girls are ROCKING out some VERY adorable CourtneyCourtney dresses. I love her dresses. In fact, one of the last time I shot some CC dresses was right here at the very same spot (the Newark, DE Reservoir). The only difference, of course, was that we had a totally overcast day, which changes the look entirely.

Thanks to the girls for coming out to play! It was a fun time : )

Warmly,
Kate

p.s. Here is another recent shoot for CourtneyCourtney … in downtown Poughkeepsie, NY.
