- Prepare the outfits long in advance so that you don’t have any last-minute stresses. And MOST IMPORTANTLY … fight the urge to dress anyone in clothing that they don’t love. It’s just not worth it. The cutest outfit ever won’t make up for a sour puss expression. We want happy people : )
- Accept that things will probably not go as planned. I’m not expecting them too!! In fact, I’m expecting a possible skinned knee, spilled juice, and definitely at least one toddler meltdown … and maybe even a moderately grumpy Dad ; ) And it’s all totally ok! I know we’re still going to get beautiful photos. We’re going to make a plan for your session … and then we’re going to roll with whatever happens. I’ve learned over the last 12 years of photographing families that this is truly the key to successful family photo shoots.
- Plan on arriving to your session 30 minutes earlier. Honestly, that probably means you’ll end up arriving right on time : ) I’m not saying this because I don’t want to wait for you. It’s just that I know that it’s CRAZY hard to get everyone ready on time. And I also know that a tense ride in the car after frantically rushing people out the door never makes anyone … least of all Mom … very happy. So just automatically schedule in that time buffer so if it takes longer than expected to get someone dressed or you hit traffic, it’s no big deal.
