beach bum — new jersey child photography

Earlier in the year, Tanna and I both saw a blog post from another photographer featuring a session that we just loved. It was two little girls playing on a beach, and there was something about it that was just adorable. So, we decided that this summer, we would do Miss Maliya’s shoot on the beach. If you’ve followed this blog for any length of time, then you already know that Maliya has a BIG personality and we always manage to capture some awesome pictures of her.

So, with a car full of toys, we headed off to Ocean City, NJ in search of the perfect spot. After some driving around, we found it! We found this random spot on the side of the road, parked the car, and enjoyed a completely deserted patch of sand and ocean …

Like I said, we brought a lot of toys that would be cute … but Maliya wanted nothing to do with any of them. She’s a sand girl and was happy just to dig and dump (and throw, too).

The light was just gorgeous that night. The later we get into summer, the faster the light changes in the evenings. We started out with bright sunlight, but it morphed into gorgeous yellow and then orange light. And depending on which way I shot, the look of our pictures totally changes. Here we are with the light behind Maliya …

And here it is in front of her, making her glow : ) …

We convinced her to play with the kite for just a little bit even though it wasn’t her favorite …

And then we moved to our original spot that was too crowded when we first got to the beach. But by this point, most of the crowds had died down and the sun was PERFECT …

And then finally, with the sun all gone, we hit the board walk. I have to say, I LOVE Ocean City, NJ. I’ve gotten pretty tired of Delaware beaches lately. They’re just so crowded. Maybe I’m going to be a Jersey beach girl from now on. Here we are waiting for Tanna to bring Maliya her present for being such a good girl : ) …

Oh boy … she’s happy : ) …

We then went and got the YUMMIEST fresh-squeezed lemonade ever. So, all in all, it was a fun day : )
