fun on a rainy day — new jersey family photography

So many parts of the country are going through such a rough time with all this crazy weather. Around here, we’re just getting rain. Lots and lots and LOTS of rain. And when I find myself a wee bit frustrated about it and longing for some Vitamin D, I remind myself that I’d rather be here than having my home flooded out or blown away like so many others. I’m trying to be positive about all this rain : ) Here are a few reasons I’m glad it’s raining (again).

1. My vegetable garden is growing like CRAZY! We have a family project going on over at my parents’ house. Right around the time when the organic cucumbers went up to $4.99/lb., we got to planting! We have six raised beds stuffed with lettuces, carrots, onions, cucumbers, beans, kale, chard, spinach, and tomatoes. I’m the official morning waterer, which means I have to go over to my parents’ house each morning and water everything. They live close by, but still, it’s one more thing to do each day … that is, unless it rains : )

2. I never have to wash my car. (Alright, not that I ever do.) A rain car bath is good enough for me.

3. I’ve been forced back into the gym. Once the warmer weather hit, I was skipping the gym in favor of my favorite trails that run through White Clay Park. Buuuuut, I tend to just get cardio and not any weight training when I do that. So, it’s good to be back at the gym sometimes.

4. I love listening to the sound of rain hitting the roof while I fall asleep at night.

5. I am a MUUUUUCH more productive indoor worker on rainy days. I mean, it’s not like I can go out and do anything anyway, right? So, I just sit down and plow through my work.

6. While some people opt to reschedule their family photo session on a rainy day (which I totally understand … and would encourage if that’s what you have your heart set on), other people are willing to get creative and just go with it. Whether we’re outside dodging the rain somehow, or indoors, a rainy day can make for a great family photos. See …

These are my friends, the Schroeders. They have GIANT children. It takes two people to hold that big baby for any length of time. And, uh, Aunt Kate can only do it while sitting down.

But he sure is a gorgeous baby. He looks JUUUUUST like his big brother did when he was a big fat baby. Now he’s tall and skinny. So (sadly), these rolls won’t last forever …

He’s got a hundred funny faces. Each time I said “go!”, he gave me something different ; ) …

Big brother was (understandably) NOT happy about this situation. But baby brother was having a grand time : ) …

Mmmm… rolls : ) …

Hey, someone tried to hijack our picture! …

Country bumpkin in training ; ) …

So, what do YOU love about the rain???

Happy Monday : )
Kate
