links i love: elopement etiquette, a genius 9-year-old entrepreneur, and the diet that made me fat

Today I have to send out a big fat boo to Instagram. I really am bummed with the new algorithm thingie that they’re rolling out. Though they say it’s to give people a better user experience, the reality is it’s got much more to do with money than user experience. People don’t see my Facebook posts unless I pay to promote … and sadly, it looks like they’re setting up Instagram to soon be the same way.

Buuuuuuut, the reality is … any kind of free app or free form of marketing can be changed at any time. So it’s up to small business owners to do fabulous things with the things they can control … like their blogs, eletters, and in-person marketing.

Ok … I’ll stop complaining now. I just needed to get that off my chest. Let’s move on to some links I love!

1. Want to elope but not offend people? Here’s some tips from Style Me Pretty.

2. You know what? If this 9-year-old girl can land a million dollar contract with Whole Foods for her really cool Bee Sweet Lemonade drink, I’m pretty sure the rest of us can step up our game and get some awesome stuff done, too!

3. The weather is slowly getting warmer! That means I want more salads. Next up on my list of need-to-try salads is this shaved fennel and arugula salad with toasted walnuts from Sweet Paul.

4. The diet of the 1980s and 1990s may be why Americans are so overweight today, this article says. I have a sneaking feeling they’re absolutely right. It was all about low-fat foods and fake foods while I was growing up. Country Crock, Olean chips, and diet soda. Once I started eating fats and REAL, live foods about 10 years ago, I magically felt better. Go figure.

5. PetaPixel shares this breathtakingly gorgeous shot by photographers Jelger and Tanja … galloping horses and all!

Happy Wednesday!
Kate
